Accepted name: (+)-camphene synthase
Reaction: geranyl diphosphate = (+)-camphene + diphosphate
Glossary: (+)-camphene = (1R,4S)-2,2-dimethyl-3-methylenebicyclo[2.2.1]heptane
Systematic name: geranyl-diphosphate diphosphate-lyase [cyclizing, (+)-camphene-forming]
Comments: Cyclase I of Salvia officinalis (sage) gives about equal parts (+)-camphene and (+)-α-pinene. (3R)-Linalyl diphosphate can also be used by the enzyme in preference to (3S)-linalyl diphosphate. Requires Mg2+ (preferred to Mn2+). See also EC (+)-α-pinene synthase.
