Accepted name: |
indoxyl-UDPG glucosyltransferase |
Reaction: |
UDP-glucose + indoxyl = UDP + indican |
Glossary: |
indoxyl = indole-3-ol |
Other name(s): |
indoxyl-UDPG-glucosyltransferase |
Systematic name: |
UDP-glucose:indoxyl 3-O-β-D-glucosyltransferase |
Comments: |
Also acts to a limited extent on 4-, 5-, 6- and 7-hydroxyindole. After enzymic or chemical hydrolysis, indican forms indoxyl, which, in turn, is converted in the presence of oxygen to the dye indigo. |
